Maternity fashion is like booking your wedding in my opinion, the second you put ‘maternity’ in front everything becomes three times as expensive. Which makes no sense considering you only need to wear it for a few months. I prefer to find suitable non-maternity pieces that I can get some where out of pre and post pregnancy if possible.
I have had quite a few people ask about where I get my maternity clothing or what I suggest so below I have put together a list of my staples I plan to dress my bump in this summer!
A good pair of jeans: I have the Jeans West maternity jeans and they are fabulous. They come in a lighter colour for spring/summer and are not too hot like some denims. The waist band is perfect for growing with the bump also and at 2 pairs for $99 you cant go wrong.
I also has ASOS maternity jeans last time, there were good but not as good in my opinion. Also you cant try them on and I had to return them to get the right sizing and still then wasn’t 100% happy, but again they are an affordable option.
Basic singlets and tee’s: I actually just wear the Thick Strap Supre’ tank dress, which doubles as a singlet when your pregnant – and only $15! Perfect for layering and flattering on the bump!
Midi Dresses: Stretchy bandage dresses are your best friend when pregnant. Most of mine are not even ‘maternity’ dresses so it means I will also get wear out of them before and after.
Stripped T-shirt Dress: An absolute pregnancy staple in my opinion. I have an old non maternity one from Sportsgirl, but you can purchase something similar from almost anywhere including ASOS, Target and Cotton On.
A comfortable pair of heels: I know the idea of wearing heels in pregnancy can seem a tad extreme but if you have to I suggest a more a mid block type heel rather than a stiletto. I also suggest investing in real leather as you want to be as comfortable as possible.
I have the Mollini – Jayman, they are super comfortable and I last forever in them. But they also have some other great style’s with a similar heel this season. I also have a pair of the Jamieson Lace Up Heel from Rubi shoes, which are surprisingly comfy!
Denim chambray shirt: This is my ultimate favourite must have maternity item! Layered over a singlet and leggings or even over a basic midi dress! I have a few different styles including a cheapy from Kmart in a size 14 and the Wren Lyocell Jacket from Jeans West for something a big dressier!
Make sure you stay tuned to the blog for more affordable maternity style in the coming months!
