As mums, we try to do it all! And for the most part we do, and darn well if I do say so myself! But if anything is going to give – it’s always going to be ourselves, and our own health and wellbeing.
I know, speaking from experience that I will get to the end of that day and realise I haven’t eaten, or I have perhaps eaten on the run (sadly, often unhealthy foods via the drive-through).
So, to try and help combat this I’ve put together 5 easy tips for mums to make sure they are eating well, keeping hydrated and making sure they are at 100%!
Make sure you have brekkie!
I am terrible for this one I must admit. Trying to get the squad ready in the morning, and the last thing you think of is feeding yourself. So, to overcome this I keep a freezer full of frozen fruits, throw them in a blender and take a smoothie with me out the door.
It’s not just a conveniently easy way to work in breakfast, but if you keep frozen fruits rather than fresh it’s a lot cheaper and you don’t have to worry about them going off!
Make healthy and nutritious food readily available!
So, when you have a baby, people always tell you to have a stockpile of frozen foods in the freezer to get you by! Well I’ve come to realise that this is in fact the case for the entirety of parenthood!
My top tip is to keep a variety of frozen meals, for lunch and dinner that are quick and easy! This is great for both work, and at home!
I have been having the new range Weight Watchers frozen meals, which are created with culinary experts and approved by nutritionists, so it makes eating nutritious and wholesome meals for lunch and dinner super quick and easy, plus they taste amazing! A hot tip, the Beef Lasagne from their Classic menu is to die for – best I’ve ever had!
They have three menu ranges to choose from – Classic, Light and Gourmet! Making it so easy for a healthy lunch or dinner solution!
Drink plenty of water!
Again, I have all the best intentions in the world with this one but, more often than not, I forget. So, I started setting reminders in my phone that went off every three hours, that told me how much water I should have drunk by that time!
Breastfeeding mothers will know all too well how much water you need to drink when feeding. Well that shouldn’t just stop! You still need to keep hydrated ladies!
Don’t make any substitutions!
I know the vogue thing these days is it take supplements for the things you might be missing out on. And of course, in some cases when prescribed by medical professionals it’s necessary. But you should try and get all your nutrition as much as you can from eating real foods.
And I know, as mentioned above that it can be hard to find the time to prepare nutritious food. But the new Gourmet Menu Weight Watchers Frozen Meals have a great variety of modern recipes, chunky cuts of meat and good quality carbohydrates such as brown rice, so it makes this so much easier!
But we’re mothers? When do we ever get rest! We will usually when we crash and burn and end up sick because we haven’t taken care of ourselves! You know the age old saying “you cannot pour from an empty cup”!
So, take note of all the items I’ve touched on above ladies and make sure you look after yourself, and rest when you need! It might be sitting down to a hot cuppa, an hour alone with a good book or even take a day to book yourself into a spa and pamper yourself!
