To say I was excited when Bonds asked us to get on board as Baby Search ambassadors, would have to be an absolute understatement. We’ve been massive brand enthusiasts since the fluffy pink terry Wondersuit that we brought our baby girl home in. Right up till this present day, where we still dress both out girls in bulk zippies, because – hello?! Convenient, super cute prints and #twinning!
So for those of you who aren’t familiar with the Bonds Baby Search – It is in fact, Australia’s biggest baby search competition! Now in its 13th year, it’s an open call for babies and children to become the new faces of Bonds. And best of all, entry is super easy and FREE! You can read their guidelines here.
So how do you get that shot that’s going to stand out in a crowd? Having an Instagram profile where I am constantly shooting pictures of my children, I will be the first to put my hand up and say it isn’t easy! What is it they say? Don’t work with kids and animals! Haha
But I thought I’d share my top tip for capturing that perfect shot!
ANGLES!! Always think of different way’s you can shoot that can really capture the moment. Get down low and shoot from their height! Maybe an over head shot on the bed, or your bub looking at their reflection in a mirror or even shooting up from outside while your little on is checking out the world outside through a window – get creative!
I teamed up with the gorgeous Raelene from Sleeping Grace Photography to capture some really cute shots of Teddy to give you an idea of the kinds of photos you can create!
But don’t just take my word for it! I’ve asked a couple of my absolute favourite IG and styling mummas, who absolutely NAIL the perfect shots of their little ones!
Find a simple and clutter-free background (like in front of wall or on a blanket) so your baby can be the main focus of the photo! And make sure you catch your little one in a good mood! Trying to take a photo of your tired or hungry baby is just going to leave you both feeling frustrated with no photo to show for it.
Can you believe this is our first time in summer zippies?! And probably the last completely matching ones we will buy since Evan and Otto are kinda growing out of zippies, as they only go up to size three, (big sizes so 3 is more like 4) what a sad end to an era! But it was so much fun while it lasted! ❤️ On a similar note, I can’t believe I’m going to have a 5 year old in a few months!!! 😱😢😍
I keep snapping away until I think I’ve got the perfect pose Babies are such wriggle worms and you need to be quick on the button to be able to get the perfect snap.
Also lighting, the better quality your light in the room is, the better quality your photos will be.
Be aware of backgrounds, keep them minimal and clutter free. Clean simple backgrounds work best. Take a lot of photos as kids move fairly quickly so you need to have options. capture them in their usual environment, doing things they love to ensure you get raw emotion. Be real, don’t try too hard or it shows. Be sure to wipe away food and booger residue prior to taking photos to avoid disappointment after.
Two words, natural light! Bright, light filled photos are much more appealing to the eye than those taken at night time.. and really, who’s toddler is happy enough to have their photo taken once the sun goes down anyway? Which brings me to my second point, candid photos, the type where you can see their little (or big!) personalities jumping out of the photo! As far as two-nagers are concerned, find what they love, and use it to your advantage.. In our house the bribery of food works a treat.
A light, bright candid shot! Something that shows their cheeky little personality and jingling the car keys or doing a funny dance to get a nice big smile is my go to trick
Just Alina and I this morning, I bought her into bed with me and she fell back asleep. I’ve been laying here for the past 20 mins listening to her breathing and basking in how lucky I am to have her. She’s my purpose and the reason for everything I do. Becoming a mother has changed me into a better version of myself, a better person! I’ll always strive to be kind, understanding and optimistic! I will make sure I give her a good role model to look up to. There’s so much negativity, drama and hate in this world. I’ll do everything not to pay into it and always choose the route that is love and light! Happy Sunday, I hope you have a beautiful day xx #lazysunday #myangel #sweetdarling #bondsaus
