Marriage is like a fine wine. If tended properly, it just gets better with age!
So as many of you might know, I surprised my husband with a private wine tour for his 30th birthday a few weeks ago. After racking my brain for weeks, if not months, about what I was going to get him, I decided that an ‘experience’ rather than a material gift was a great option, because I’ll be honest after 11 years together, I had literally run out of things to get him!
It was also a sneaky little way that he and I could enjoy some alone time together, something as parents, never happens! You totally begin to appreciate time more than ‘things’ as you get older that’s for sure!
I started researching tours, and after a great deal of feedback I decided a private tour was going to be way better suited to us and a much more enjoyable experience as a lot of the generic bus tours are very inflexible and only go to certain mainstream wineries!
We went with a company called Wine Compass, who only run private tours that are tailored, flexible and heaps more personalised, with tours on both the Mornington Peninsular and the Yarra Valley.
Adam was fantastic to work with and put together the perfect itinerary for us that included some lovely boutique wineries and even some cheese tasting at my request (because who doesn’t love cheese AND wine).
Knowing nothing about what wineries were good or where to go, we left the itinerary up to Adam, and he absolutely did not disappoint!
We started at the amazing Main Ridge Dairy with a selection of goats cheeses, we also got to meet some adorable goats! We then went to Tucks Ridge, a small, boutique winery with possibly the friendliest and most informative cellar door I’ve ever been to – wishing I bought way more wine then we did!
We then headed to Mont Alto for lunch and sat outside overlooking their quirky sculpture hill! Definitely one I would recommend on its own for a day trip, even to take the kids! We then trekked to Quealy Winemakers, which was quite a different experience but definitely worth it (and not just for the Koala in the tree)!
We then finished up at Bluestone Lane, which offered up quality wine and even better quality laughs! If a dog who serenades you with Celine Dion isn’t a grand finale, then I don’t know what is!
Having been my first wine tour, I can officially say I’m hooked and cannot wait for the next excuse (but honestly I’ll clutch at anything to go back asap) to set up another wine tour with Wine Compass! Hens, anniversary, birthdays, Wednesday! It’s honestly the perfect idea for any occasion as a couple or as a group – defs go check them out!
