She is a successful actor, singer, presenter and on top of all that, a busy mother of two to the gorgeous Harper & Hendrix! And just when you thought she could master no more, Nat launched her very own children’s wear line. The uber successful, Chi Khi!
I was lucky enough to have a chat with the budding fashion designer as Chi Khi launches it’s second even range for Spring/Summer! We chat all things kids fashion, her own personal style and mum life!
You’ve had a successful career as an actor, singer, presenter, author and now fashion designer! Could you tell us little bit about Chi Khi?
Chi Khi is my third child… A few people think I was approached by a company but the truth is it was my idea. Every little piece of it – What was I thinking!!
Chi Khi is a brand for kids who are not afraid to stand out from the crowd and for parents who love quality and considered design.
What was your inspiration to delve into the world of fashion and begin your own line of children’s clothing?
I have always loved design, fashion, architecture. I love good quality things that last. I have never been afraid of taking chances and seeing what I am capable of and after I had children my world was all about them …. In a good way!
There was so much to learn being a mum. They had sensitive skin and I found that bamboo fabrications were great for their skin but there were no ‘cool’ clothes made from bamboo. The combination of all these things led me on the Chi Khi path.
You’ve just announced the second ever range of Chi Khi, coming this Spring/Summer! What can we expect to see in this new range?
We have kept the core aesthetic monochrome but we are making a statement with Print. We have expanded our size range up to seven because of the demand and added accessories.
It’s all in the detail. Inspired by sports luxe, mesh fabrics, mesh eyelets, drawcords and most of all relaxed styling using super soft bamboo fabrics which makes for a cool unisex range that kids and parents will love.
As well as clothing, you’ve also expanded the brand to include the Chi Khi bare skin care range (which is amazing btw). Could you tell us a little about it?
Thank you so much. I am so proud of this range! We have launched Chi Khi bare with two essential products – a wonder cream and nappy balm.
Never having done this before I was really keen to make a product that was as natural as possible and still work. We went back and forth until we got the formulas right and I am beyond thrilled. With key ingredients like calendula C02 which is 45 times stronger than regular calendula. pomegranate seed, rose hip oil, shea butter and coconut oil to name a few.
The feedback so far has blown my mind. One lady said she used the wonder cream on her daughter who’s skin usually flares up after swimming. This particular week she swam everyday. The wonder cream was put on morning and night and at the end of the week her arms were clear. Her mum said she normally cant get away with not using cortisone, but it was all clear. it is very exciting.
When you’re not gracing our screens as a judge on X Factor or designing gorgeous children’s clothing and skin care, what can we find you doing?
Oh my, life never stops. If i’m not taking the kids to swimming, gymnastics, sportsbuzz or anything else I’m in the office working, filming, in meetings, you name it. It is relentless! lol
How would you describe your own style? And what would you say your token ‘mum attire’ looks like?
My own style is fairly masculine i’d say… most days you would find me in a pair of low crotch pants, a tee and my Adidas wedges..
And finally, what are your three must have’s this Spring/Summer season?
This season you have to have a great pair of jeans – Citizens of Humanity are amazing. A pair of sneaker wedges for everyday and a great hat! It’s all about great accessories!
