Creative, entrepreneur, mother, speaker. I thrive on learning, growing and sharing my journey in the hopes to inspire others to live independently, confidently and courageously.
As someone who has always experienced anxiety to varying degrees in my life. I have forever been looking for remedies and solutions to help me reduce the effect and live a more normal life.
One big thing for me has always been struggling to sleep, usually, it’s that I struggle to fall asleep. If my stress and anxiety are heightened, I can lay awake for hours trying to slow my brain and switch off.
Thankfully, I have found quite a few ways to help me in the process. These are all things if I implement them can all complement each other well in helping me get to sleep, and stay asleep. So I wake feeling rested, which usually helps reduce my feelings of stress and anxiety.
That whole ‘what came first? The chicken or the egg’ scenario!!
That is why I am excited to partner with Rest&Quiet, who offers a wide range of complex, contemporary combinations of Bach Flower Remedies, traditionally used for sleep, stress, and mild anxiety.
They have asked me to share my top tips for getting a better, more well-rested sleep. Especially, when struggling to wind down and fall asleep.
A big issue for me is caffeine. While I love my coffee and sometimes I feel like I cannot function without it. The effects of caffeine seem to be pretty brutal on me when my anxiety is heightened.
Therefore, in times where I do find myself struggling to get a well-rested sleep. I will reduce or remove caffeine from my diet completely.
A big part of my stress I find creates this inability to focus and remember things. I always feel much more in control when I write things down and specifically create a to-do list for the upcoming day so that I am off to a good start.
I think it is pretty well documented that using your phones or any technology before bed is disrupftful to a good night’s sleep.
I find that if I put my phone down and actually allow myself to wind down naturally, I have a much better chance of falling asleep and getting a well-rested sleep.
To help encourage my mind to settle and to help me ease my mind to sleep, I have started using the Rest&Quiet Sleep Formula before bed. Its unique blend contains 6 Bach flower remedies to help calm the mind, and assist with feelings of overwhelm & impatience when trying to get to sleep.
I did not realise for a long time how much of a difference this can make. Making sure there’s no artificial source of light in the room from chargers, power points, devices, etc as this can seriously impact your sleep.
I have changed power sources and unplugged devices for this reason. I found there were a lot of blue and red lights that seemed harmless but were actually quite bright once the room was dark.
As someone who has flown a lot overseas and dealt with some serious jetlag and adjusting to sleep cycles, I have really come to realise the importance of a regular schedule.
I try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. I notice when I have the odd late night or early morning outside of my regular routine I feel more lethargic and less rested.
When I’m on a roll with a regular schedule I feel energised, rested and often don’t need an alarm to wake up!
I have found that enjoying a relaxing cup of tea before bed helps set off my nightly routine and tells my body that we are about to go to sleep.
Having a winddown routine, much like that I created for my kids when they were younger. It seems to work really well for me.
Seems like we never grow out of needing that – LOL!!
Much like my routine of having a cuppa, I also pop a few drops into my diffuser. It helps set the scene for that nightly ritual.
I only set it to be on for around 30-60 minutes as the noise can be loud once drifting to sleep. But it certainly helps in helping set a calming environment.
These are all little ways I have found to help me get better sleep and reduce my stress and mild anxiety, which certainly all go hand-in-hand when I am struggling with either.
I would love to hear if you guys have any tips or things you do? And should continue to be experiencing any unpleasant feelings or continue to struggle with sleep, mild anxiety, or stress. I suggest speaking to your healthcare provider about other solutions that may be suitable for you.
