Buying designer items can be a nice investment, but they can also be quite expensive. However, there are ways to get your hands on high-quality, designer pieces without breaking the bank. Here are a few options to consider:
One way of the best ways to buy designer items for a fraction of the price is by purchasing from luxe goods resellers. These are companies or individuals who buy and sell gently used or pre-owned designer items.
Some popular luxe good resellers you might have heard of are The RealReal and Vestiaire Collective. These companies offer a wide variety of designer items, from clothing and accessories to home decor and art.
However, I prefer to use some more local individual resellers like “Selling Your Wardrobe”, who is located in Melbourne and I have a great relationship and trust.
I often buy and sell my own designer goods with Jordie (who is the GOAT of reselling IMO) and have found some amazing bargains like my current season Valentino platforms I recently got for almost HALF the price.
I have also sold designer items for MORE then their retail as they were high-demand items, unavailable for purchase at the time.
SMW and other such services also offer authentication services to ensure that the items you are purchasing are genuine designer pieces.
Another option is to consider hiring designer items instead of buying them outright. There are companies that offer designer item rentals, such as my favourites “The Style Squad” and “The Vault”.
This can be a great way to try out a designer piece for a special occasion or event without committing to a full purchase. It’s also a more environmentally friendly option, as it helps to reduce the amount of clothing being produced and discarded.
You can get 25% off your first hire with The Style Squad with code LIV25 for 25%.
If you’re in the Melbourne area, be sure to check out Hunters Market Melbourne. This is a popular market that takes place usually on the first Sunday of every month, and it’s a great place to find designer items at discounted prices. You’ll find a wide variety of clothing, accessories, and other items from both local and international designers.
I have both sold at the market and bought tonnes of epic pieces for a fraction of the price. On my last trip, I got a P.E Nation jacket that retails for almost $400, I got it for $50 WITH TAGS!!!
If you are not in Melbourne, search ‘pre-loved markets’ in your area!
Online stores like Depop and Poshmark are great options for finding designer items at a fraction of the price. Both of these platforms allow users to buy and sell gently used clothing and accessories, and you’ll find a wide variety of designer items available. It’s also a great way to shop sustainably, as you’ll be purchasing pre-owned items instead of supporting the fast fashion industry.
I have both sold and bought a lot on Depop and find it easy to use and manage. You can shop my Depop here!
If you have a specific designer item in mind that you’d like to purchase, consider setting up a Google Alert for it. This will allow you to receive notifications when the item goes on sale or is available at a discounted price. This can be a great way to snag a designer item at a fraction of the price, as long as you’re willing to be patient and wait for a sale.
I did this for a pair of Golden Goose sneakers I really wanted and ended up getting them almost 40% cheaper than their RRP. I set up an alert and then also used Shopback on the website I purchased from which I saved about 7%
If you’re a frequent shopper, be sure to take advantage of any loyalty programs or rewards programs that you may be a part of. Many retailers offer points or rewards for every purchase you make, and these points can often be redeemed for discounts or special offers.
Some credit cards also offer rewards programs that allow you to earn points or cashback on your purchases. These points can often be used to purchase designer items at a discounted price, so be sure to take advantage of them!
I purchased my Dyson Airwrap using my Qantas points. I will note, this is the lease cost-efficient way to use points but I couldn’t justify the huge price tag and also we were not flying much at that time.
Overall, there are quite a few options available for purchasing designer items at a fraction of the price. Preowned items are also a more environmentally friendly option, as it helps to reduce the amount of clothing being produced and discarded. So, don’t be afraid to consider gently used or pre-owned items when shopping for designer pieces. It’s all about being content with what you have and finding joy in the process of shopping and finding great deals.
Whether you choose to shop at luxe good resellers, hire designer items, shop at markets or online stores, set up price alerts, or use points and rewards, you’ll be sure to find high-quality designer pieces at a price that works for you.
