We were so lucky to get the opportunity to head to the birthplace of the LEGO brick recently and had an absolute blast exploring everything this brick-filled wonderland has to offer. One of the key highlights, of course, was LEGO House.
If you’ve ever considered visiting the iconic LEGO House in Billund, Denmark, than I am here to tell you to BOOK THAT TRIP. Whether you’re a lifelong LEGO fan or travelling with little ones, LEGO House promises an immersive, creative experience that’s perfect for all ages – Here’s our experience, along with some tips and must-know info to help you make the most of your visit!
LEGO House, also known as the “Home of the Brick,” is the ultimate destination for LEGO enthusiasts, a dream come true if you will. It opened in 2017 and is located in the heart of LEGO’s birthplace in Billund, it’s part museum, part interactive playground, and entirely magical. Packed with over 25 million LEGO bricks, six interactive zones, and a treasure trove of LEGO history, it is honestly heaven-on-earth for brick lovers like us!!
Getting to LEGO House is actually relatively easy I discovered. The nearest airport is Billund Airport, which is not even a 10-minute drive from LEGO House, you can see it from the airport. It’s a small but well-connected airport, with direct flights from many European cities and major hubs like London, Paris, and Munich (where we flew in from). Once you land, you can either take a taxi, a shuttle bus or rent a car for the short ride into Billund.
I would just suggest jumping on the bus, as once you are in Billund you can walk everywhere!
LEGO House is super popular, especially during the summer holidays. We were there at PEAK time, and trust me, it was busy. Booking your tickets in advance not only guarantees your entry but also lets you pick a time slot that suits your schedule. Plus, your ticket covers access to all interactive zones and exhibits—definitely worth it!
I highly recommend downloading the LEGO House app before you arrive. It’s loaded with interactive content and challenges that help you fully immerse yourself in each zone. Plus, it ensures you don’t miss anything, especially timed activities!
Want to avoid the crowds? Plan to arrive when LEGO House opens or later in the afternoon. We noticed it was way less busy after 4 pm. Depending on how many days you plan to spend there, you’ll want to give yourself plenty of time to explore because, trust me, you could spend all day soaking it in.
LEGO House regularly hosts special events, fan tours, limited-time exhibits, and workshops. Check the official LEGO House website when you plan your trip or ask at the information desk upon arrival to see if there’s anything extra happening during your visit!
The LEGO House store is AMAZING, but you’ll want to give yourself time to explore. We spent hours in there! Not only do they sell exclusive LEGO sets, but you can also find sets signed by the designers themselves. So, plan ahead for space in your luggage or be prepared to buy an extra suitcase—it’s worth it!
LEGO House is divided into several zones, each offering something unique and exciting. Here’s a quick breakdown of the top must-see areas and some
One of the first things you’ll notice when you enter is the jaw-dropping Tree of Creativity. Built with over 6 million LEGO bricks, this 15-meter-tall structure is a true representation of LEGO’s endless creative possibilities. What’s really cool is that it’s forever growing—you can see the next branches “under construction”!
LEGO House is also home to the Masterpiece Gallery, where AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO) (yes I just learned that term on this trip LOL) showcase their mind-blowing creations. From life-sized animals to intricate cities, these fan builds highlight the extraordinary talent and passion that LEGO brings out in people. You won’t believe the level of detail – I was in AWWWWWWW!!
One of the most exciting activities for us was building our own custom LEGO Minifigures! Of course, we built Taylor Swift!! At the LEGO House store, you can design your very own figure by choosing different heads, torsos, legs, and accessories to create a unique character that you get to take home.
This was honestly the coolest!! Head to the Mini Chef restaurant, where your meal is ordered using LEGO bricks and prepared by robot chefs! It’s a quirky dining experience that’s just as much fun for adults as it is for kids.
One of the coolest parts of LEGO House is the opportunity to see LEGO bricks being made right in front of your eyes! Just inside, near the exit, you can watch the actual machine that moulds LEGO bricks in action. It’s an amazing way to see the production process up close, and it gives you a newfound appreciation for those little bricks. Plus, you get to take home a freshly moulded LEGO brick as a souvenir—this is the coolest keepsake ever and we will treasure it FOREVER!!
Something we didn’t know (and I’m so glad we found out!) is that there’s a LEGO-themed playground on the roof. It’s a great spot to let the kids burn off some energy while you take in the view of Billund.
If you’re collecting LEGO Passport stamps from around the world (which you should be), don’t forget to get the exclusive LEGO House stamp in the LEGO Store! This felt like THE stamp to get – we were very excited to get our stamps!!
If you’re a collector, you’ll be thrilled to know that LEGO House offers exclusive sets that you can’t buy anywhere else in the world. These sets are often inspired by the exhibits and experiences within LEGO House, making them truly one-of-a-kind souvenirs. We picked up the LEGO House Architecture Set as a memento of our visit, and it’s a piece of LEGO history we’re proud to display at home. Keep an eye out for other exclusives as they do bring in new ones every year, while others are retired.
Our trip to LEGO House in Billund was nothing short of amazing. Every single corner is packed with opportunities to play, learn, and be inspired. Seeing the creativity of LEGO fans and immersing ourselves in the world of LEGO was a true bucket list moment for us—and I’d recommend making the journey to anyone!
There are also some other great things to see and do in Billund which I will cover in another post!!
Whether you’re travelling with family or friends, or even going solo, LEGO House is a place where imagination runs wild and everyone becomes a master builder for the day (or a few, as you can easily spend more than one).
