Creative, entrepreneur, mother, speaker. I thrive on learning, growing and sharing my journey in the hopes to inspire others to live independently, confidently and courageously.
If you’re like me and have ever had to sprint to the shops last minute for a birthday gift, overspent out of guilt, or paid ridiculous express courier fees – you need a gift cupboard in your life.
I started building a gift cupboard years ago because I live in regional Victoria. Getting anything decent or affordable often means travelling over an hour to a proper shopping centre. And express shipping? Not always an option out here – even Amazon Prime isn’t always next-day.
So instead of getting caught out, I started keeping a stash of gifts on hand for all those “oops I forgot” (story of my life) moments like the 324,623,976 birthday parties my kids seem to get invited to, teacher and coach thank-you’s, Kris Kringle, school raffles, or even a sweet gesture for a friend who needs a pick-me-up (yes, gift giving is 100% my love language).
I also use it regularly for my kids’ sporting fundraisers and can quickly pull together a small gift basket or prize donation with what I already have on hand.
And the best part? I’m not bulk spending around Christmas or end-of-year. I spread the cost throughout the year and take advantage of sales when they pop up. This little cupboard has saved me hundreds of dollars, so much time, and definitely a lot of stress.
But here’s the thing: I don’t believe in gifting for the sake of it. I want my gifts to feel intentional, luxe, and useful, even if I’m working within a budget. There’s nothing worse than getting something cheap and nasty that you know you’ll toss in the bin. So I focus on quality, thoughtfulness, and items that people will actually enjoy using.
I’m also big on making sure gifts are thoughtful and meaningful. Personal touches like a name, a quote, or a themed tag can turn even a simple present into something heartfelt. Whether you use a Cricut or a bit of creative flair, it’s all about adding that extra love (also: if you needed a sign to get a Cricut, this is it).
Here is some ideas of things that might pop up across the year so you can fill up the box accordingly:

Even the most affordable gifts feel luxe and heart felt with a custom touch.
Your gift cupboard doesn’t have to be massive, it just needs to be intentional. A small stash of thoughtful, budget-friendly items can save you from overspending, overthinking, and over-stressing.
Whether it’s a class party, a surprise invite, or a raffle donation, you’ll always be ready. Your gift will be thoughtful, personal, and appreciated and most important it won’t break the bank.
