Hong Kong Disneyland had been on our list for ages, but with the opening of World of Frozen in November, Ted and I simply HAD to check it out!!
We found reward flights on Qantas, making it really affordable, just $780 in taxes and points!! The flight was just under 9 hours, the airport was easy to navigate and the park was only a ten-minute drive from the airport!! (I will note you need cash for taxis in HK, don’t make the same mistake I did).
Hong Kong Disneyland is nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Lantau Island. And while it may be the smallest of the Disney parks, we found it to be jam-packed with Disney magic and glad we stayed for 3 days!!
Personally, I found this park to be the most child and sensory-friendly, as it didn’t boast huge crowds and was easy to navigate around I highly recommend it for families with young children if they’re looking for their first park experience!!
From all the questions I’ve been asked, I’ve put together some handy tips and things to know when visiting the park for the first time, and give my suggestions on how best to navigate the park and ensure you get the most out of your stay!!
Try and plan your visit during off-peak periods or less busy days of the week. Utilise crowd calendars to determine the best time for a more relaxed and enjoyable exploration of the park. Check for Chinese holidays, school terms etc for any significant dates.
Peak periods are also reflected in the tiered ticketing system based on how busy it’s predicted to be.
Pre-book, plan and save is my motto!! Take advantage of discounts by booking tickets through platforms like Klook.
This ensures cost-effective entry and secures your preferred dates, eliminating any last-minute uncertainties. You should also check park times and days as they do change and are not open every day!!
There are two-day tickets also, which were also more cost-effective.
You can use my code OLIVIAWHITE for an extra 5% off when booking on Klook.
You can do the park in a day, but I suggest 2 days at least to make sure you cover everything and fully take in the experience.
I would suggest extending your visit to two days for a leisurely experience. This allows you to immerse yourself fully in the magic without rushing from one attraction to the next.
Make sure you get to experience all the parades, fireworks and dining experiences too!!
We stayed in World of Frozen for at least half a day to take it all in!!
I would highly recommend staying onsite at one of the three Disneyland Resorts offered at Hong Kong Disneyland. This means you not only have a place to relax only a short walk from the park, but you can then enjoy exclusive perks like dedicated resort entry, character meet and greets, heaps of themed activities and dining experiences that you don’t get at the park.
We stayed at Disneyland Hotel, which was only about a 700-metre walk to the park entrance!! Or a free shuttle ride.
Also makes it a lot easier to get to the park early and take advantage before lines get long!! Great if you have young families and need a break in the day too!!
You can book packaged accommodation with Klook using Stay+ at a great discount – click here!!
I found most of the ride lines were between 5 and 20 minutes. With times for World of Frozen becoming longer in the day as it’s a new area, and on Saturday (the busiest of our days) it was 70 minutes.
Download the Hong Kong Disneyland app to start planning out your visit based on wait times and book fast passes or priority access where needed.
Arrive at least half an hour before opening so you are in front of the crowd too!!
100% YES!! I was so blown away by how intricate and special the whole new area was. Teddy was in awe, she loved it!! I would head directly to World of Frozen first as this newer area tends to draw crowds quickly.
I would book my boarding pass for “Playhouse in the Woods” as soon as you enter the park so you don’t miss out. This will give you an entry time to return.
I would also take advantage of Early Access and ride “Frozen Everafter” and “Sliding Sleighs” first, as many times as you can before the lines get too long.
Also check out the hair braiding station, exclusive treats and dining offerings and exclusive merch only available in World of Frozen too.
On less busy days you can enter via the front entrance from Fantasyland as well as from It’s a Small World, which makes it a bit easier to get in and out!
I found everything from the park tickets, hotel, merchandise and food to be extremely reasonable with our dollar. Tickets cost around AUD 114.19 with early access. Headbands were very affordable around AUD 35 a pair.
If you are staying onsite, you can book your hotel and tickets as a package on Klook with their Stay+ offering. This gave us about 14% off as well!!
You don’t need to worry about a language barrier as we found all the cast members spoke several languages, including English. As well as rides being largely in English or translated.
I love experiencing all the different foods at different parks. There were heaps of options, including a mix of traditional Chinese and Western options, and lots of traditional Disney Park favourites!!
Neither Ted nor I had any issues finding food we liked and we enjoyed trying many different things unique to the park!!
You can jump on the app to check menus!!
I will also note, that there are no restaurants and convenience stores around the resort. Unlike other parks, there is no ‘Downtown’ or village outside of the park. The only food options are in the park or hotels!!
They were some of the best I’ve seen!! We went at Christmas time too, which I always find to be super magical!!
Make sure you catch the “Momentous” Nighttime Spectacular, you don’t want to miss it. Was the perfect finale to our day!!!
Overall, I would say whether you’re navigating the park with the enthusiasm of seasoned Disney enthusiasts like us or the wide-eyed wonder of being a first-time visitor, Hong Kong Disneyland is well worth the trip!!
Beyond the practical tips, Hong Kong Disneyland’s smaller size, I found, translates to a more intimate and manageable experience, perfect for families seeking a day or two of enchantment without feeling overwhelmed. Only really need a few days rather than a week which can become expensive.
I would say Hong Kong Disneyland stands not only as a testament to the magic of Disney but also as a practical and budget-friendly destination for families and individuals, as well.
