Having been on a fleeting visit to Byron when I was nine weeks pregnant with Annabelle (great idea dickhead) I have been dying to get back ever since because I spent the entire time sleeping, vomiting (or both) and never got to take in anything it had to offer.
Last week we did just that, and brought my good friend Brit along too for a little family fun! Even in those few years, Byron has changed so much as is such a great destination for families looking for somewhere that has something to offer everyone.
So I have put together a little list of our favourite places to explore, eat, shop and stay to make planning your Byron holiday a little easier!
Byron Bay and surrounding areas are some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. Whether you head to one of their gorgeous beaches or up into the hills – there is so much to see and do.
I’m sure most of you have heard of Wategos Beach, one of Byron’s most famous spots. But also make sure you check out The Pass, Clarkes Beach and Tallows Beach. All just as beautiful and perfect for kids!
Another great spot for kids is out to The Farm at Ewingsdale. This place is perfect for kids with a huge adventure playground, roaming grounds and animals to pet. You could seriously spend all day here It’s also great for a feed and a cheeky wine.
If you’re just looking to check out what’s happening around town, then I definitely suggest hiring a bike (with a trailer if you’ve got kiddies). Parking can be hard at peak times and as there are only a few main streets so it can be a tad chaotic on the road. Skip the traffic and have a cycle around town, it’s a much better way (the Byron way I should say) to get around.
And of course, I cannot forget Main Beach. A great spot to stop for a spot of lunch and the kiddies can check out the park. There is an ice-creamery right behind you and a fish and chip store right next to the pool – day sorted!
Oh my gosh! I cannot rave about the shopping in Byron enough. Brit worded me up that I needed to save my pennies before I went and she was right.
And these are all stores you won’t find anywhere else so it’s not like just heading down to your local shopping centre.
My tops picks are Mister Zimi, Rowie, Auguste, Arnham and Spell.
Another amazing thing about Byron is the amazing food on offer. There are dozens of amazing restaurants and cafes. And even better – they have kept all the big chains and fast food retailers away, so you have no other option than to enjoy amazing food!
My tops pick include The Farm as mentioned above – a great spot to enjoy brekkie or lunch and take the kids for a run-around!
Bayleaf Café is a must do for brekkie – it’s also the perfect place to start before all your shopping ????
Another little gem is the Top Shop, just outside the main town up on the hill towards the lighthouse. They have blankets you can sit out on the lawn and games for kids as well as Kombucha on tap so you can totally get your Byron on ????
Jonson’s is another great spot for brekkie. They have a large courtyard out the back so little ones can run around and amazing food.
We were also recommended The Mez Club, St Elmo’s (although no highchairs so we didn’t go) and Miss Margarita’s but didn’t have enough time to check them out.
I recommend anyone coming to Byron as a family to have a look at Airbnb. We found an amazing three-bedroom house that was fully equipped with everything a family would need, as well as a big flat area for kids and an amazing swimming pool.
This meant that when we were not out and about the kids still had plenty of space to run around and we could relax.
We found the perfect place only 800m from town but far enough away from the hustle and bustle on a quiet street called Keats Cottage.
